We are incredibly excited to announce that after months of negotiating, fine-tuning our exclusivity agreement with Scheepjes to stock their yarns in South Africa, and then finding a freight forwarder, watching the Rand dive after Zuma’s misadventure in firing our Finance Minister, our stock has arrived, been unpacked and is Selling Out Fast!

Scheepjes – Inspiration in every ball of yarn (see?! Meant to be a marriage to Be Inspired here!)

Scheepjes Colour Crafter

What we LOVE most about Scheepjes, besides their delicious yarns, glorious colours, and beautiful textures, is their support of our crochet designers and bloggers. Have a look at their website, under Blog Inspiration and you will find the latest projects from said designers, using the Scheepjes ranges. Whilst the exchange rate terrifies us, we are counting on our customers loyal support so that we can bring the best of European yarns to our little crochet world. The ranges we are focusing on are the brand new premium acrylic Colour Crafter, the cotton/acrylic mix Stonewashed, and the Invicta Colour sock yarn.

Tatsiana from LillaBjorn Crochet has been using a lot of Scheepjes and has reviewed the Colour Crafter you can find this interesting read HERE.

ear muffs 6

Her latest creation are these cute ear muffs in Stonewashed. You can read more about them here LillaBjornStonewashedearmuffs. A free pattern will be posted on LillaBjorn’s blog next week. The challenge will be finding a set to cover!

Dedri Uys, Sophies Universe designer and crocheter extraordinaire has been working in the Scheepjes yarns for a while, and had told us that the Crafter is beautiful to work with. We have now had the opportunity to work with it as well, and it is a premium acrylic. It does not pill, not matter how much you lug it around. It is soft and important for us, does not squeek when you work with it!

Dedri Uys of Sophie’s Universe fame has created this Summer in Swanage blanket using the Scheepjes Colour Crafter

Summer-in-Swanage-Blanket

you can download the free pattern for this blissful blanket here: Dedri Uys Summer in Swanage

LillaBjorn Crochet made a more muted blanket following Dedri’s pattern (you can read about it HERE) and its just as beautiful, also in the Scheepjes Colour Crafter

The other range which we have had the joy of working with already, is the Stonewashed range. There is also a Stonewashed XL, which Julie has been playing with, this is a chunky soft yarn. Because we are going into summer, and although the 78% cotton 22% acrylic mix will be fairly cool (in terms of temperature!) to work with, we are bringing in the Stonewashed (no XL) range first. This is worked on a 3.5mm hook, so is a little thinner than our double knit. But let me tell you, it works up beautiful and is so soft. And the colours are so pretty. AND it has an “Easy Start” pull so the centre yarn is EASY to find (no more yarn barf).

We are busy writing up the pattern for the flower hexagons above, and as soon as that is ready we will print it in our encapsulated format so that it can fit in your pattern files. Have a look at our other pattern cards HERE. We will put together a small sample pack of the Stonewashed that will sell in a kit with the pattern card – you will then be able to try the Stonewashed for yourself.

The Invicta Colour we just had to have for ourselves. HOWEVER it has been so popular that a couple of the colours are already sold out. I haven’t even had a chance to try any yet, but Julie has been working a corner-to-corner shawl and it is looking lovely – more on this next time.

So, please let all your friends know. Please tell all those people on social media platforms who are drooling over other peoples Scheepjes, that WE have it in South Africa! If you have some of the Scheepjes already, and are on social media please #scheepjesbeinspired so that we can see what you are up to!
