As we find ourselves sweltering through an uncharacteristically hot South African September/October 2015 in sunny Durban, I decided to explore the option of creating a Sunny South African ‘Spice of Life’ Bag rather than to start on yet another warm, albeit incredibly lovely, blanket! So I rounded up a Summer-y selection of the gorgeous Nurturing Fibres Eco-Cottons (just recently arrived in our shop), grabbed a jute bag (also recently added to our shop), downloaded the first 2 parts of CherryHeart’s Spice of Life CAL (which can be found here ) and off I went!
The names of these Eco-Cotton colours are just gloriously sunny in themselves – Bessie (yellow), Ruby Pink, Lavender, Denim, Vanilla, Sunkissed Coral, Paris (deeper purple), Aventurine & Sweet Pea (pink). Using a 4mm hook I was thrilled to discover that the overall number of stitches as specified for the blanket fitted around my bag EXACTLY!
It was clearly meant to be and then there was no stopping me! 🙂
I chose to work the piece up in the round, rather than working it flat and then having to it sew up with an ugly and obvious seam at the end. I am following Sandra’s Spice of Life blanket pattern exactly except for only working one row of plain trebles between the fancy pattern sections. I’m hoping I will then fit one of each of the fancy pattern sections in before I hit the top of the bag? So far so good……
And now that I have hopefully Inspired you to start your own… I’m off to get going on Part 3….
